Travel Tips For Asia

Insurance

Do not skip travel insurance! I know if feels like such an expensive addition to your already expensive trip, but it is so important. You really get what you pay for so, as tempting as it may be to go for the cheapest policy, do a bit of digging into what your policy covers.

To me, travel insurance essentials are medical expenses, repatriation, trip curtailment, and travel resumption. I also never have a policy excess because this can seriously reduce the amount the insurers pays out.

In times of need in a foreign country, a private hospital with English speaking doctors and nurses is invaluable. Some (not all ) public hospitals in Asia (especially South East Asia) are not up to Western standards.

Essentials To Bring To Asia

Imodium: it happens, we all eat something that does not sit well with us. Don’t be stuck on a long bus ride in agony, pack some Imodium
Anti-histamines: great for reducing symptoms of mosquito bites
Air Tags: keep track of your passport, and other valuables

Vaccinations

It is advisable to get the following vaccines prior to arriving in Asia. Hep A, Hep B, Tetanus, and Typhoid. Also consider the rabies vaccine, unfortunately monkeys and stray dogs across Asia can carry this.

You can get these vaccines from you GP, Boots, or a travel clinic in your town.

Flights

Flights across South East Asia are incredible value, the local airlines are usually safe but check on ICAO whether they meet international safety standards. However, even if they don’t you are still very safe.

My favourite airlines in Asia are Scoot, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Thai Airways.
