Turkish food is delicious! In general meals tend to involve lots pf meat, vegetable, spices, oils, and nuts.
If you are visiting Turkey check out these 8 best Turkish food you need to try!
1. Turkish Delight
Turkish delight has a special place in my heart, they are my favourite sweet Turkish food.
They come in all different flavours, some are just regular Turkish delight with nuts others are filled with pistachio cream, brownie, caramel, almond cream, nutella and berry but there are loads more flavours.
2. Ali Nazik
Ali Nazik is lamb kebab on a bed of pureed eggplant. The eggplant is amazing, it tastes like hummus but with a creamier texture. It is so full of flavour. It is also usually topped with a spicy oil. The above photo was taken in Mükellef Karakoy, a restaurant I highly recommend. It is on the rooftop of a hotel and you get almost panoramic views of the city.
This is one Turkish food you should not miss!
3. Baklava
This is an obvious one, baklava are everywhere in Turkey and for good reason. Walking the city streets you can smell them, these pastries are sweet syrupy filo filled with chopped pistachio!
Try this sweet and sticky Turkish food once and you will keep coming back for more.
4. Meze Platter
Turkey know how to cook their meat! This is clearly displayed in their meze platters, which are insane, bursting with flavour, especially the lamb kebaps.
They often come with rice, vegetables, flatbread and sometimes fries. They are very big so can be shared…if you want!
5. San Sebastian Cheesecake
I love a good cheesecake, is there a better cake?!
When I stumbled across this cheesecake online I had to try it. It is THE perfect cheesecake, not heavy, not too sweet, smooth and then covered in a velvety chocolate sauce.
I had this with a Turkish coffee and it was the perfect combination. I went to Sirinfirin bakery, if you sit outside you have a great view of Galata tower. One of the more indulgent Turkish food to try.
6. Borek
There are a few different kinds of Borek, the types I usually found were cheese, spinach, potatoes, cheese and spinach. They are a crispy filo pastry stuffed with one of the above fillings and they are normally are served with a yogurt dip.
Although they may not look exciting they are so yummy!
7. Mini Ravioli
These little guys are boiled dumplings filled with mince meat on a yogurt sauce.
I can guess you are thing why the photo is pretty burned? Well that is my bad photography skills, they are usually not this brown. Try this Turkish food that is inspired by Italy!
8. Lahmacun
I do not have any pictures of this but they were my go to cheap eat! So, so delicious, they are often referred to as the Turkish pizza. They are really thin flat breads topped with mince and often walnuts and pomegranate juice. I liked to squeeze some lemon and put a little bit of cucumber & tomato on them. So full of flavour but very light.
