9 of the best restaurants in Canggu

Our time in Bali was mostly spent eating out and co-working. Not how we intended to spend it but a leg injury significantly restricted what we could do. However, I cannot complain though as Canggu has some of the most incredible food spots and now I get to share some of what I think are the best restaurants in Canggu.

Canggu has an abundance of restaurants from warungs to high-end restaurants owned by world-renowned chefs, basically, you definitely will not go hungry no matter what your budget!

I found in Canggu that most of the restaurants were catered towards Western tourists, many of the restaurants had about one to three Indonesian meals such as nasi goreng or satay but everything else was pretty much what I would find back home in Dublin. For that reason, I recommended attending a local cooking class to understand Balinese food a bit better.

Kynd

Address: Jl. Nelayan No.31, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 90k per meal

If you are looking for incredibly tasty vegan fare then visiting Kynd is a must. Starting as a small cafe in Bali, today they have 2 restaurants in Seminyak & Canggu. Sister. Kynd’s message is to spread kindness, a mantra that the owners clearly live by having set up a sister cafe GIVE. This is a 100% non-profit entity that has donated $128,00 to Indonesian charities. If you like their food they even offer an online cooking class that teaches people how to make the very recipes you eat in their restaurant.

Kynd menu covers breakfast, lunch & dinner, they also serve delicious cocktails! Not only are they vegan but they have gluten-free options across the menu. My favourite meals there were the Cheeken salad, tan tan ramen and bli buddha bowl.

Not surprising that it is considered one of the best vegan restaurants in Canggu!

Gron Espresso Bar & Kitchen

Address: Jl. Raya Semat No.1, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 65 – 85K for most meals, coffee is 25 – 55k

I walked by this place almost every day and finally, on the last weekend, I went here out of convenience. I ended up kicking myself I never visited sooner. Gron serves an Asian-Italian Fusion-style cuisine, and they do it exceedingly well! Not only is the food mouth-wateringly good but the coffee is the best I had during my time in Canguu.

I ordered the halloumi in a grain bowl and my boyfriend had the chicken katsu sando which was a massive breaded breast of chicken, slaw and Asian bbq sauce sandwiched between fresh white bread. Yum!

The Barn Gastropub

Address: Jl. Lkr. Nelayan, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 100 – 150K for most meals, 145k – 260k for the Sunday Roast (price depends on meat)

If you want a taste of home then this is the place. The Barn is a British gastropub with live sports, bar games, live music, plenty of beer and an upstairs speakeasy-style cocktail bar. Basically, it has a lot to offer!

Admittedly I was not expecting the food to be that good, after visiting several British/Irish bars abroad I learned to associate them with subpar food, however, the Barn is in a different league. It must be the best British pub/restaurant in Canggu. Initially going in for a few drinks we noticed everyone had these massive plates of food, literally everyone coming into the bar was ordering this, not only that but the smell of gravy was wafting through the air. After a few drinks, the temptation was too strong so we decided to order one roast between us. Consequently, the only bad thing we both had to say was the fact we had to share it.

We went back to get a meal each and it was just as good. This time I ordered pork and it’s worth noting that all Sunday roasts come with roast potatoes, cheesy cauliflower, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, red cabbage and a large portion of gravy. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best roast I have ever had!

On another occasion I ordered a steak and Guinness pie, it was perfect! After travelling for so long it is really great to come across places that serve food from home to an extraordinarily high standard.

Revolver Canggu

Address: Jl. Nelayan No.5, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung. Also located in Seminyak and Bali airport.
Expect to pay: 80k – 120k per meal

If you follow any big social media influencers then chances are you have seen this place before, it is a very popular spot. It started as the first speciality coffee place in Bali and now has evolved into a well-known food mecca serving over 2000 customers a day.

Inspired by Australia the menu includes extensive brunch options such as smashed avo, breakfast burrito and a classic fried breakfast, the day/night menu includes Korean fried chicken, burgers, mac & cheese and chicken parm. I would highly recommend Korean fried chicken and the beef burger.

There is a small terrace outside where you can watch one of the busiest roads in all of Canguu, while inside the interior is dark and moody, reminiscent of a cocktail bar in any large metropolitan city.

MR. SISTA – Cafe / Espresso

Address: Jl Tegal Sari 28, Berawa Tibubeneng, Kec.Kuta Utara Kabupaten Badung Berawa
Expect to pay: 65k – 80k per meal

I found this to be one of the most relaxing open-air cafes in all of Canggu, the atmosphere is so chilled you could easily stay here for a few hours with a book or catch up on some work. Mr Sista serves breakfast and lunch, they have a wide-ranging menu that includes chocolate waffles, avo eggs, bagels, paninis, kofta, burgers, salmon and healthy salad/vegetable bowls. I had the most delicious falafel bowl here, it was served with a large amount of hummus and a coconut dressing.

Mr Sista also serves some of the best coffee in Canggu, it’s strong with a standard of 2 shots per drink.

Brunch Club

Address: Banjar Pelambingan, Perumahan Canggu Asri, Jl. Karang Suwung, Berawa
Expect to pay: 70k – 100k per meal

The Brunch Club is another well-known and well-loved eatery in Canguu, it is not hard to see why. As the name suggests the brunch club serves brunch, their portions are massive and the menu offers something for everyone. I have to give a shoutout to their famous “porn cakes“, these are souffle-style pancakes that are ever so slightly gooey on the inside, they also wiggle if you shake the plate. You can get lots of different toppings but I thought the best was the New York cheesecake as it is not too heavy.

Another menu highlight is the chicken and waffles which was so good I kept stealing some from my boyfriend. You will not regret visiting one of the best brunch restaurants in Canggu.

Wings Canggu

Address: Jl. Nelayan No.8e, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 80k – 120k per meal

After trying a few wing places in Canguu this place is hands down the best! It is a cosy venue with a small rooftop. They serve regular and boneless wings with a choice of sauces that include spicy Bangkok, habernero, mango habanero and bbq. If you can’t decide you can mix and match different sauces. Aside from wings, the menu includes loaded fries, jalapeño poppers and burgers.

They have plenty of deals like all-you-can-eat Wings Wednesday for 150k, 2 for-1 beers on Sunday, and a lunch combo for 100k 12:0 – 5pm daily.

Seaweed Resto

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 70k per meal

Out of all the beach bars I visited in Canguu this one is my favourite, the bar is located at the foot of Batu Bolong beach so as you can expect the views are some of the most incredible compared to other beachside restaurants in Canggu. You can sit her for a long time on the beanbags watching all the surfers in the distance.

Aside from the views the food is also good with burgers, nachos, satay, nasi goreng and lots of fish. Lastly, they do 2-for-1 cocktails which is brilliant, given the location it is a sweet deal!

Cibo!

Address: Jl. Subak Sari No.8, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung
Expect to pay: 75k – 95k for pasta, 120 – 230k for steak, lamb, roast chicken

Authentic Italian food, the owner Chef Diego is an award-winning chef from the northern Italian region of Emilia Romagna. He is exceptionally warm and friendly, you just know he puts a lot of passion into his dishes The menu has what you expect from an Italian restaurant such as carbonara, ravioli, fettuccine and lasagna, however, there is no pizza.

I ordered the lasagna which was tasty and refreshingly light, unlike typical lasagnas, while my boyfriend had the carbonara, he was quiet throughout, this can only mean it was delicious. Although the portions are small they are extremely filling.

The restaurant has a lovely ambience with a beautiful terrace garden, there is also a live band making it one of the best Italian restaurants in Canggu.
